Since I bought my MacBook I had problems with my cursor when attaching my MacBook to my external monitor or TV. It was jumping all over the place and I tried several possible solutions, but nothing seemed to help. But now I finally found a permanent solution to the problem and it's actually quite simple. I wanted to share my solution so other people don't have to go thru all of my troubles. I personally use a MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch from Mid 2014, but the fix should work for any MacBook. This fix is intended for any mouse connected to your MacBook thru USB.
Non-Volatile Random Access Memory (NVRAM) is a very technical term for your Mac's ability to retain stored data even when the computer powers off. Sometimes this memory can get jumbled and cause your computer to do strange things–like make your cursor jump all over the screen. A reset of your Mac's NVRAM could resolve the issue. Being a long time Mac user that also does a considerable amount of work in Windows, it was blatantly obvious how much of a handicap not having snaps was for Mac OS. I began to despise working on my Mac anytime I needed to do any kind of multi-software tasks and really don't like the the Spaces/Mission Control feature that separates. The fix (OS X El Capitan):
Go to Accessibility > Mouse & Trackpad and check 'Ignore built-in trackpad when mouse or wireless trackpad is present'.
And that's actually all that's too it. But if you want an even smoother mouse experience - or you're an ex-Windows user who misses the smoother mouse movement that Windows has to offer - I strongly advice you download and install SmoothMouse. This program should also get rid of any mouse lag / jumping if any would still exist.
Additionally:
I personally use the logitech M705 mouse and this mouse has additional buttons which I couldn't configure, but I found a great program with which I can. It's called SteerMouse and if you install SmoothMouse first, I found that the mouse drivers wouldn't interfere with each other. In my opinion this gives you the best USB mouse experience possible on a MacBook attached to an external display. With SteerMouse you can assign almost any functionalities to any additional buttons you have on your mouse.
